London Fashion Week collaboration

Aimee Betts stitchingFor their Spring/Summer 2013 collection, displayed at London Fashion Week in the courtyard of Somerset House, luxury heritage brand DAKS collaborated with Aimee Betts.

Aimee is a Mixed Media Embroidery Designer and Creator of Adornments, who works part time as the Stitch Technician in the Textile Design Department at Chelsea College of Art & Design.

She collaborates with fashion companies on the design and production of embroidered fabrics for their runway collections.  For this fashion project Aimee worked on the design and production of hand-embroidered fabrics and garments for the Daks S/S13 Womenswear Runway Collection shown at London Fashion Week.

Inspired by the artwork of Abstract Expressionist painters and working with translucent fabrics, Aimee re-interpreted the House Check using hand embroidery techniques such as White-Work, Pulled Thread Work and Shadow-Work. The embroidered fabrics were worked on a 32” tapestry frame in order to engineer the design of the embroideries to the pattern of the garments. The garments took between 50-100 hours to hand-embroider, as the techniques used were incredibly intricate.  Aimee can be seen stitching away in the SS13 DAKS backstage video.
